Miss Doreen Bird FISTD ARAD Hon MA

Doreen Bird founded Bird College of Dance and Theatre Performance in 1949 with eight students, and was Principal until 1998. She was appointed examiner of the ISTD Modern Theatre Branch in 1957, National Dance Branch one year later and Imperial Ballet Branch in 1964. Doreen was a committee member of the Modern Theatre Branch from 1970 for 16 years, during which time she collaborated on the compilation of all new major Modern dance and Tap syllabi. She also served as ISTD Council member from 1970 to 1975. Doreen received the Imperial Faculty Award in 1996 and three years later an Hon MA Degree from The University of Greenwich. Currently she is working for a post-graduate research degree at Surrey University - about dance, of course!
