Mr
Peter Eggleton
After
leaving the army, the culmination of eleven years as an amateur
competition dancer was the achievement of a World Championship title.
Upon turning professional in 1959, Peter took an Associate examination
with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, the beginning
of many years of service to the Society on the Ballroom Faculty,
Executive Council and, ultimately, Grand Council, a position which
he still holds.
As
a professional competitor he enjoyed, with Miss Brenda Winslade,
great success winning among many titles, 8 International, 6 United
Kingdom, 6 European, 3 British Open and 3 World Professional Championships.
A
career as a teacher, lecturer and adjudicator followed, and Peter
counts himself fortunate on still being in demand for these services
all over the world, working with all levels of dance from World
Champion to Novice with great success, something he hopes to continue
doing for many years to come.
Peter's
first studies in dance were at the Bush Davies School in Romford,
Essex, where his teachers were, none other than Joyce Percy and
Daphne Peterson. He was keen to go on the stage at the time, but
school studies dictated otherwise.
After
that, at 18 and a day, the army took over conscription for three
years, and the opportunity was gone. Hence, rather than waste the
training entirely, he began an interest in Ballroom dancing, which
turned out to be fortuitous!
