About DANCE

The first issue of the ISTD's magazine was published over 100 years ago in 1907! The publication was, and still is, the main vital source of communication amongst all members of the Society.

What an achievement. There must have been thousands of individuals who have contributed over the years. Having reached this magnificent milestone we would like to thank all those contributors, past and present, for their involvement.

Dance Journal, as it was known back in 1907, has gone through many changes but one thing that has remained a constant is the commitment of those individuals who have contributed to it, in whatever shape or form.

There are not many publications which are still being published after 100 years and no doubt the first editor Charles D’Albert would have been delighted to know that, when penning his foreword to the first edition, dance teachers across the globe would one day celebrate the 100th birthday of the publication.

On reading his foreword I was struck by the similarities between what was said then and what I had intended to say now on this very page. Charles D’Albert was far more eloquent in making it clear that your feedback is needed to progress DANCE magazine forward. So please do take advantage of the Letters Page we have (re)launched. Tell us what you think of the revamp and more importantly what else you would like to see in this publication.

DANCE magazine is now published quarterly and sent out to the ISTD's 10,000 members based in more than 50 countries across the northern and southern hemispheres.

The magazine reaches examiners, teachers, dancers and students who support the vast array of dance styles covered in every issue. They can read about competitions, events and news from all the different dance styles around the globe. Information is also given on courses, training, health and much much more.

It's no wonder that this innovative quarterly magazine proves popular with companies wishing to reach a broad dance population.

Read the following comments some of our readers have made regarding DANCE magazine:

"I find the magazine one of the most interesting dance publications I receive - so clearly arranged. I do look forward to receiving each copy and that is why I find myself keeping it and looking back over past issues periodically, thanks to you all concerned."

"I am very impressed with with DANCE magazine. Having only just gained my Cecchetti Associate I haven't had many copies of DANCE. However the ones I have read have been most interesting and very informative."

"I have retired from Ballet, although I do Ballroom and Latin American for pleasure. As I live on the Isle of Man and am therefore a little isolated from the mainstream of events, I really welcome the magazine as a means of keeping in touch"

"...Keep up the good work with a very high standard magazine and excellent communication with a reasonable membership subscription"

"I always look forward to DANCE magazine.."

"The magazine is a wonderful lifeline to teachers overseas as to what is happening at HQ or changes in the syllabi, so a very big 'thank you' for putting it out so regularly."

"I really enjoy the magazine and think the photographs are superb"
