Your
Memories of Blackpool!
New
DANCE magazine representative Vernon Kemp invites you
to wander down memory lane...
As
I write this my pupils and teachers are busy preparing
for another Grand Finals day at Blackpool Tower. This
is the climax to a year’s work for many medallist
schools and I am sure it will have been another sell
out success. If you attended I hope you had an enjoyable
and successful weekend. If you have not been before
do try to make it next year it’s a great event
in the ISTD calendar.
Medallist
competitions have been organised by the Ballroom Faculty
for many years. In the photograph on this page you can
see the scene at the Ballroom ‘At Home’
as it was called at Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane,
London. The Great Room was the splendid venue for this
event. The photograph is of the 1968 competitions attended
by 1300 people.
I’m
hoping some readers can remember the medallist competitions
from those days and would like to put pen to paper or
email me some of their recollections. How has the dancing
changed? The dresses, the music and anything else you
fondly remember.
In
future editions of DANCE magazine I’m planning
to write about The Standard and Basics Trophies and
The All Ladies Foxtrot Trophies, and again any memories
you have of these events would be most welcome.
There
are some names listed below to start you thinking!
