Christmas
Choreographic Workshop
This
year’s Cecchetti Centre Christmas Choreographic
Workshop took place on 16th December at the Arts Educational
School, London and the theme was The Wizard of Oz. The
aim of the day was to create a ballet good enough for
performance that the children themselves had choreographed.
A skeleton show was pieced together prior to the event
with approximately nine 21⁄2 minute dances. A
Finale and Overture bolstered the show to about half
an hour.
Each
group was assigned a helper to offer suggestions to
start the children off if necessary. Naturally some
groups were shy to get going, others were instantly
inspired and required less assistance. There is always
a lovely creative atmosphere and the dances were really
excellent – it isn’t always easy to be imaginative,
inventive and original.

The
day could never be successful without a marvellous willing
team of helpers. They were: Hazel Arnold, Kirsty Arnold,
Sarah Bradshaw, Melanie Bull, Eileen Eagle, Annabel
Haines, Elizabeth James, Diana Lloyd-Jones, Lisa Millard,
Belinda Payne, Rhoda Peckham, Jane Scholl, Roz Strevens,
Holly Unnuk, Geoff Wheatley, Kirsty Williams and Jane
Worsley. They were amazing and had unique ideas for
costumes. I’ll never look at plastic plant pots,
tablecloths, paper plates or squares of green shimmer
fabric in the same way again!
It was a fabulous day and I hope the children and helpers
will return next year.
