| The
Cecchetti Centre’s Christmas Teachers’ Course
Once
again we were a handful of Teachers enjoying a three
day Christmas Course of inspirational tutoring by Ms
Cara Drower at London Studio Centre, 17th to 19th December
2007.
In
2007 Cara taught two other courses specifically for
Cecchetti teachers either preparing for Licenciate or
FDI Module 3 Dance Practice Examinations and Intermediate
and Advanced 1 Exams with very fine results to follow.

This
time nine teachers attended the course and we all had
different assets and needs but Cara managed to cover
levels for FDI, CDE and Licentiate to the full satisfaction
of everyone. Every morning started with a practical
class at Intermediate to Advanced 1 level perfecting
our own Cecchetti Grades 3 to 6. For those who had just
started studying the FDI Cara was assisted by Alison
Dos Santos (CDE contextual studies tutor at the Cecchetti
Centre) who undertook the knowledgeable teaching of
Grades 1 and 2.
After
lunch we carried on to Dance Practice setting enchainements
at different levels reassuring right use of build-ups
and safe practice finishing with the fourth and last
class of the day. Dance and Music, going through appropriate
speeds and rhythms. Numbers of creative variations were
choreographed throughout the course and at different
speeds. We all gained a good understanding of setting
enchainements and music at all levels and all 12 classes
were brilliantly accompanied by Seff Hill who contributed
with relevant comments on how to use music in teaching.
Cara's
courses are always a true inspiration to us Cecchetti
Teachers. The Cecchetti style is more than a 100 years
old but Cara keeps it young and alive and is a determined
promoter of teaching methods ever evolving around it.
On behalf of all of the attendants at the Christmas
Course 2007, I can only say we all look forward to another
challenging and witty Teachers’ course in Easter
2008.
