Cyril
Beaumont Scholarship
The Cyril Beaumont Scholarship was founded by
Mr Beaumont to fund Cecchetti training for a student
in full training. This year it was held on 19th October
at Kate Simmons Dance Ltd in Warrington, and was a very
enjoyable day organised by Miss Simmons and her staff.

Gillian Hurst gave an inspired class, accompanied by
Peter Jones, complementing the enchainements perfectly
so that the dancers had every chance to do well. The
adjudicators were Nathalia Barbara, who comes from Brazil
and is currently teaching at the Central School and
Gillian Dawson, a retired Cecchetti examiner. Both the
winner, Azusa Oishi from Japan, and the runner-up, Lauren
Smith showed very pleasing presentation and technique
and clearly enjoyed the class. It is particularly pleasing
to see Cecchetti style and qualities being so carefully
nurtured and perpetuated.
Miss Simmons made the occasion one of celebration, with
performances by the students, including a very striking
Spanish ‘Sacremonte’, danced by Mandev Sokhi,
and a lively reel from La Sylphide as a finale. There
was then a champagne lunch for distinguished guests
and the adjudicators to end a delightful day.
