Fewster
Cecchetti Scholarship
The Place was this year's venue for the annual Fewster Cecchetti Scholarship
in October. The excellent entry came from five vocational colleges with
the boys equalling the number of girls. All participants must be students
of the Cecchetti method.

Ho gave a beautifully constructed class which began simply but increased
in its demands for the finalists. His calm approach must have gone a
long way to putting the students at ease. Linda Pilkington, Chairman
of the Cecchetti Ballet Faculty, introduced Julia Farron as the distinguished
adjudicator and she, in her summing up at the end of the afternoon,
congratulated the competitors on the very high standard of their work.
I am sure that everyone agreed with her choice of winner, Carrie Johnson
from Arts Educational School, Tring, who showed an assured musicality
throughout her work and a sense of joy in her quality of presentation.
Ashley Dixon from Central School of Ballet and Drew McOnie from Arts
Educational were runners up. Tyrone Singleton, also from Arts Educational,
was awarded the special prize, given by Barbara Fewster, for a promising
male student.
The
class was accompanied by Guy Attew whose music was, as always, a delight.
