Wales
& the West Area Awards
The
second Wales and the West Area Awards took place on Sunday
23rd November 2003 at the Congress Theatre in Cwmbran. The
theatre is situated right in the middle of the shopping centre
so it made it easy to find for all those travelling from as
far as Swindon in one direction and Swansea in the other.
Forty
excited and nervous young dancers (all under ten years) arrived
first for their Junior section, and after seeing the stage
and being introduced to the adjudicator and pianist they soon
felt much more relaxed. They thoroughly enjoyed their time
on stage, many for the first time, with the audience appreciating
their performance. Carolyn Parker, the adjudicator for all
the sections during the day, presented the awards as shown
in the announced results in the pink box opposite. Miss Parker
then praised all the young dancers for their good efforts
on stage, especially their Puppet dance.

In
the afternoon it was the turn of the dancers in the Intermediate
section, under the instruction of Carol Goode. Some strong
performances in both their exercises and their Frog dance
were evident in this section and that resulted in some deliberation
before awarding the winners with their plaques.
The
Senior section gave us a display of real talent in their Cecchetti
set work, under the instruction of Jacqui Everson, who then
invited Carolyn Parker back on stage to share her thoughts
on the work shown and to give the results.

This
Awards experience was enjoyed by both parents and dancers
and flower bouquets were presented to both Carolyn Parker
and Penny Hughes, our pianist for the day, who played masterfully
for the children, including many repetitions of the music
for the Puppet and Frog dances.
We
all join in expressing our sincere thanks to Pamela Miller
for organising the day, and look forward to the awards again
in 2004.
