The
Cecchetti Centre Licentiate Course
Anyone preparing for his/her Licentiate examination would have found
the Cecchetti Centre's Course run by Cara Drower at The Place, London
on Sunday 27th January, invaluable.
A
thoroughly informative day began with the candidates presenting parts
of a class (barre, centre practice, allegro) to some young students
from Cara herself and the Vacani School of Dancing. The participants
were allowed to teach both set and unset exercises at the Advanced 1
level to dancers they had never encountered before. Helpfully, Cara
analysed all teaching practices pointing out possible pitfalls and encouraging
strengths. The setting of an unseen enchaînement was tackled later
to some musical selections made by Stephen Hose, our proficient accompanist
for the day. Although initially a stressful exercise, there was finally
applause for the numerous successful variations.
The
lunch break was followed by an afternoon of boys' work, demonstrated
by several young men, students of Richard Glasstone at the Rambert School.
It was a privilege to have the opportunity of teaching boys. Breaking
down and analysing their exercises, as well as being made aware of the
various technical approaches required of men for pirouettes, tours en
l'air and grand allegro was fascinating.
This
thought provoking and enlightening day absorbed students, teacher participants
and observers alike. Thank you, Cara.
