Sunday
26th September 2004
Sadler’s Wells, London
7.00pm
The
Society chose to stage the Gala at Sadler’s Wells in
London, the 'home of dance' and one of the most prestigious
theatres in the dance world, to ensure it celebrated in style
and at a venue that compliments this significant milestone
in the ISTD’s history.
The
Gala was the culmination of this remarkable centenary year
and focused on the achievements of the Society over the last
100 years from its inception in 1904 up until the present
day.
So
many different professional artists commenced their dance
training and musical theatre careers with ISTD teachers from
both Theatre and Dance Sport Faculties. The Society had therefore
been keen to ensure that the Gala was truly for everyone who
has, and continues to be, associated with us.
The
Gala performance on Sunday 26th September brought together
many different elements from the Society’s remarkable
history by looking back through the decades of dance. Encompassing
all of the diverse dance styles, this event was a fitting
tribute to the enduring quality and excellence that has always
been synonymous with the ISTD.
There
was a tremendous response from artists in the profession to
appear at Sadler’s Wells with us.

Many
of you who will remember the excellent Gala the ISTD staged
in partnership with UNICEF in 2002. The ISTD were therefore
delighted the Gala Director of that performance, Chris Baldock,
agreed to direct the Centenary Gala on behalf of the Society
and on this occasion he was ably assisted by both Richard
Marcel and the Chairman of Centenary Committee and Gala Producer,
Sue Passmore.
