Centenary Celebrations
Throughout
the year it is anticipated that in addition to the events
organized by the Society there well be a whole host of activities
and events held by both the 12 Faculties of the Society as
well as ISTD members themselves.
In this section of the website we will keep you up to date
with what the Faculties are doing to celebrate the centenary
and if you are staging an event yourself let us know and we
might be able include details of it here.

If
you are an ISTD member and would like to use the Centenary

Centenary Celebrations
The Wakefield
Theatre Royal hosted the Centenary Dance Celebration on 10th
July 2004. This gave the many schools across Yorkshire the
opportunity to work together and celebrate 100 years of the
ISTD.
My friends
and I travelled four times to Leeds, from Hull, between May
and July for rehearsals. During these rehearsals we worked
alongside pupils and teachers from other schools in the Yorkshire
region. This enabled us to see the different styles of teaching
and dancing. I took part in the Greek dance along with a number
of other girls who had never done Greek before. We found this
experience very thrilling and it will hopefully be useful
to us in the future. It is always fun to learn new types of
dance.
On the
day, each dance school thoroughly enjoyed observing the other
schools rehearsing throughout the day. I was delighted to
be able to open the show in Alexander’s Rag Time Band.
The show consisted of many different genres of dance ranging
from Greek, song and dance and a number from Chicago. The
variety of styles made the show all the more entertaining.
This
event gave us the opportunity to perform to an audience which
is what we all love doing. The audience showed their appreciation
through their enthusiastic applause. Overall it was a wonderful
event to be involved in which carried a warm, friendly atmosphere,
even through the rushed changes, which made the day even more
enjoyable. We all gained from the experience of adapting to
different ways of teaching and working in a team with people
we didn’t know.

Thank
you
I thought it was a great experience, it was wonderful to take
part in something as big and as special as this. If I was
asked to do it all over again tomorrow I would definitely
say yes. I hope I can take part again someday. Thank you for
all the hard work the teachers put in to make it become what
it was!

I liked
being in the show because I was able to see different styles
of dancing and ones that had funky steps and the feeling of
being there was exciting.
