Regional Roadshows

These innovative roadshows took place in Portsmouth and Cheltenham and saw students taught by professional dance artists and current musical theatre principals, choreographers, resident dance captains and principals in West End shows or tours. At the end of each day there was a performance of the repertoire taught during the day and a showcase by the professional dance artists.

Portsmouth

Sunday 15th February
Ferneham Hall, Portsmouth

A very successful day of workshops, attended by 100 plus young dancers and teachers from 23 schools in the Portsmouth area, launched the first of the Centenary Roadshows.

Ferneham Hall was a perfect and friendly venue for the three West End Musical Workshops that rotated throughout the day. ‘Anything Goes’ was led by Shaun Henson, ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’ led by Phyllida Crowley-Smith and ‘Fame’ led by Philip Thomas. The reaction was excellent, the talented highly professional team inspired the workshops with their artistry, dynamics and precision teaching.

Registration was at 9.30am and the day finished with a showing of the work to parents and families at 5.15pm. Sincere thanks to Paddy Hurlings for the significant help in making the event so successful.

It was great!

Oh my god, this is the show that everyone couldn’t wait to do and what could be better than being taught by Phil Thomas. His enthusiasm and his love for performing rubbed off on every one around him, also his humour made learning the routine so much more enjoyable.
(Ellesha Newton)

It was a great experience and a good opportunity to learn the West End dances. We really enjoyed it and we would do it again!
(Claire and Sandra)

I felt I was given a true picture of what life would be like for me as a professional performer. The whole day was extremely well organised and thoroughly enjoyable, although we had to work really hard it was a very useful and rewarding day.
(Kerry Barber)

I very much enjoyed the Roadshow and would love to take part in another one. I learnt a lot, like how much devotion it takes to become a dancer and if you keep at the hard work you will get there.
