| Summer
School 2004
Sunday
8th August, was the first day of the Classical Greek Dance
Association Faculty's Summer School 2004. Held within the
impressive campus of Christ's Hospital School, Horsham, it
was once again great to be meeting new people and greeting
old 'summer school' friends.
This
year we had two busy courses running, a children's course
and a teacher's course.
The
children's course is always full and frantic, and includes
classes in Classical Greek, Musical Theatre, Tap, National,
Drama and Stage Fighting. Social activities this year included
swimming, a sports evening, a games evening, a shopping trip
and a fancy dress party.

At
the same time the children were preparing for an end of week
demonstration and choreographic competition, so all in all
a very hectic, busy but above all fun week was had by all.
Meanwhile,
the teacher’s course was dealing with all things Greek!
Many had attended to learn the new Vocational Sequences, some
had come simply to find out what Classical Greek Dance is
all about, and two members of the group were making final
preparations for their associate exam at the end of week.
The
teacher’s course was accompanied by Roz Jennings, who,
as always, kept everyone going when the brains and the bodies
were close to giving up!

Mrs
Mitchell-Smith stayed on to adjudicate the Choreographic Competition
and the winners were Katy Marcham and Ruth Bruce, who created
a super athletic duet entitled 'In Honour of Athena'.
Two
scholarships were awarded: the Sonia Bond and Juliet Locks
Scholarship was awarded jointly-to Elise Sadler and Amelia
Nalsbit. The Rita Ireland Bursary was awarded to Clare McVity.
Summer
School is always busy, very hectic but most importantly great
fun! It's a great way to discover the Classical Greek technique.
The dates for 2005 are yet to be confirmed - so watch this
space!
