| Northern
Easter Holiday Course
The
Northern Easter Holiday Course was held on 20th - 21st March
2005 at Stevenson School, Gomersal, Yorkshire.
Our
grateful thanks go to Kathleen West for allowing us to take
over her studios for the two-day course and Faculty meetings,
and congratulations to Diane Sugden for her organisation.
The
teaching faculty included Kay Ball, Kim Cooper, Karen Collings,
Cynthia Carr, Alison Sneddon, Maureen Jeffrey, Susan Michell-Smith
and Diane Sugden, with Roz Jennings at the piano.
Sunday
was Children’s Day, with over thirty children attending,
with Monday for teachers and students, recapping syllabus
and Medal sequences including free work with balls.
A
scholarship class took place at the end of the course adjudicated
by Kay Ball and Sonia Bond. The Junior winner was Francesca
Hitch and the Senior Winner Thorsten Hellmich. Vouchers were
given to Jayne Priestly, Anne Draisey and Ruth Draisey.

A
report from Melanie French, one of the young teachers attending
One
of the best aspects that I find as a fairly new teacher to
Classical Greek, is the variety and interpretation that can
develop from a chosen theme. At this years Northern Easter
Course, held at Gomersal and organised by Miss Diane Sugden,
it was ‘shapes and patterns’.
With
such a lovely wide theme, those in attendance couldn’t
wait to see what the teachers would come up with, myself included!
For my own class with the Senior Group, we used the rainforest
and the weather that controlled it to show shapes in nature.
At
the end of the Children’s Day (Sunday) each class performs
a sequence to show what they have learned, which as I suspected
was very varied! A good use of props was seen including scarves,
balls and quite a large band of instruments to the obvious
delight of the juniors.
All
in all, a day that children, teachers and parents enjoyed
immensely and I’m sure that they are eagerly looking
forward to meeting up again next year.
