Daphne
Hawkesworth Cup
Roz Jennings,
was the recipient of the Daphne Hawkesworth Cup 2002.
Roz Jennings
trained at the London College of Music under William Lloyd-Weber (Julian
and Andrew's father), where she took a great interest in his composition
classes. This was to stand her in good stead for her later accompanist
career, as she went on to play at Rambert, London College (Bedford),
The Royal Ballet Upper School (Barons Court), and more recently at Margaret
Howard College and Penny Meekings College.
In 1980
at London College, Bedford, Roz had her first encounter of Classical
Greek under the guiding and loveable hands of Joan Darwall, Chairman
of the Classical Greek Dance Association Faculty at the time. She was
soon hooked and became more and more interested in this particular dance
genre.
She has
played at the Classical Greek Summer School since the early 80s and
I feel sure that she could easily pass her Associate, Licentiate and
Fellowship with at least 198 marks with all the knowledge she now has
of Classical Greek Dance. Her Flying and Ginner skips have to be seen
to be believed, and she also does a mean Roger De Coverly, as I'm sure
those who remember Miss Hart's Glory Heaps on the last morning at Summer
School will verify.
Over the
past 7 years she has worked closely with members of the Classical Greek
Dance Association Faculty Committee to produce the music for the Set
Primary Sequences, Medal Tests, Advanced 2 Set Sequences and more recently
the wonderful new CD - Music Suitable for Classical Dance. She is currently
working on the music for our new Grade 6 syllabus and another Free Music
CD.
Of course,
Roz is not just a Classical pianist. Her Tap and Jazz classes are also
as inspiring as her Ballet and Classical Greek and I'm sure the other
Faculties will join with me in saying what a worthy recipient of this
award for outstanding service to dance she is.
Roz Jennings'
response to the Daphne Hawkesworth Award 2002.
In response
to the presentation Roz wrote of her feelings of honour and privilege.
Honour that the Committee should think her a worthy recipient of the
award, and the privilege she feels to have been able to contribute to
the Classical Greek Dance Faculty over the years. She said, "The world
of Classical Greek Dance has given much more to me than I could ever
give back. I greatly appreciate this award".
