Daphne
Hawkesworth Award 2001
The Daphne
Hawkesworth Cup for outstanding service to Classical Greek Dance has
been awarded to Kay Ball.
Kay graduated
from London College of Dance and Drama and runs her own very successful
school in East Grinstead.
She is
a fellow of the ISTD, a member of the Theatre Faculty Board and a long
standing committee member and senior examiner for the Classical Greek
Dance Association Faculty. Kay has organised the very successful Classical
Greek Dance Festival for many years and took over the running of the
Greek Dance Summer School several years ago.
Presenting
the Award, Chairman Sonia Bond spoke of a very worthy winner who works
tirelessly for Classical Greek Dance. She said, "This is a thank
you from us all to you, Kay, for all you have done, for all you are
doing , and for all I know you will be doing in the future for this
very special form of dance that we feel so proud to be part of."
Responding
to the presentation, Kay spoke of good teamwork, and the great support
she receives from her 'team', particularly Karen Collings and Carol
Vasko. Kay thanked the teachers and colleagues from London College,
Marylebone Lane, and Rona Hart, who first inspired her love for Greek
Dance. She spoke of the help in training she had received from Joan
Darwall and the encouragement from Susan Mitchell-Smith. She went on
to speak of how privileged she felt lately working on a recent project
with Cynthia Carr, "who has been a great inspiration to me."
