Ginner Awards 2001
On 3rd
November, Cecil Sharp House, London filled with excited children, parents
and teachers as the time approached for the Ruby Ginner Awards 2001
to begin.

Jessica
Buckby,
winner of Middle Grade |
The adjudicators
were Audrey Kraft, British Federation and All England adjudicator, and
Alison Seddon, Fellow of the ISTD.
Kay Ball
took the Junior Grade class and brought out the expressive qualities
in the young competitors. Audrey Kraft said, "We felt cold, we
felt happy, we felt frightened!" It was a very entertaining and
enjoyable class.
The winner
was: Rosalind Bell (Maureen Jeffery), 2nd: Joanna Jordan (Amanda Wilkins),
Musicality: Hannah McVeigh (Maureen Jeffery).

The Seniors
who followed showed us some lovely work, this was a very large section
which made the task of the adjudicators even more difficult. The teacher,
Cathy Carroll, gave a very clear and interesting class. Adjudicator
Alison Seddon complimented the competitors on their work, but reminded
them that while they were concentrating not to forget to show their
love of Classical Greek Dance in their faces.
The Shield
was awarded to Lucy Auger (Lorna Rookledge), 2nd: Megan Dowell (Karen
Collings), Musicality: Annis Pittman (Karen Collings) and Boys' Plaque:
Joseph Connor (Cathy Carroll/Dupont School).

Senior
Grade Class |
The afternoon
session began with the Daphne Hawkesworth Award 2001, presented by Chairman
Sonia Bond to Kay Ball for all the tireless work she does on behalf
of Classical Greek Dance.
The Middle
Grade proved to be another very large section, divided in two. The adjudicators
thanked Penny Childs for a lovely class and went on to praise the children
for their responsive performances, but told them not to forget to let
the movement reach their heads.
Winners
were: 1st: Jessica Buckby (Kerry Hadfield), 2nd: Alexandra Sarrafan
(Cathy Carroll/Dupont School), Musicality: Jane Priestly (Kathleen West).

Maureen
Jeffery was praised by the adjudicators for giving a stunning class
for the Premier Grade. The standard was high, with the students responding
quickly to Maureen's instructions. They were congratulated for their
beautiful dancing, with the adjudicators telling them, "your teachers
must be proud of you".
Hannah
Sarrafan (Cathy Carroll/Dupont School) was awarded 1st place, with Alexandra
Leonard (Linda Knight/Fiona Sheehan) 2nd, Musicality: Jane Mills (Kerry
Hadfield). The Christine Orange Cup went to Olivia Stevenson (Cathy
Carroll/Dupont School) and the Biddy Pinchard Cup, for capturing the
essence of movement, to Emily Carrington (Amanda Wilkins).

Chairman

John Hoskins
was at the piano throughout the day and helped to inspire the dancers
to give some excellent performances. A very satisfying day, well organised
by Lucy Pohl.
