A Summer School success for the Classical Greek Dance Association Faculty
We are delighted to report on a very successful summer school, which was held from August 16th – 21st. Our plans to hold the course at Bradfield College sadly did not materialise, but we were able to hold a course for Teachers and Students due to the generosity of one of our examiners, Miss Amanda Wilkins. Amanda is the principal of the Kilburn School of Dance in Wellingborough and is the proud owner of beautiful, new purpose-built studios. She offered us the use of these for our course, which we gladly accepted.

We were joined by 12 delegates, including two ladies from Germany. The course provided a much needed opportunity for the delegates to study the Classical Greek technique, both in terms of syllabus requirements and background study. Some attended the course in order to achieve the vocational exams needed in order to complete the FDI/CDE qualification, some were preparing for the FDI practical units, and others were preparing for Fellowship. As such it was a diverse week that really did cover all aspects of Classical Greek dance.
The course was taught by Kay Ball and Carol Vasko who were kept very busy, but were also delighted to be able to share their love of the work with so many other enthusiastic teachers. It was encouraging to meet some new Classical Greek ‘converts’!
We were also very privileged to have Roz Jennings join us for the whole week to inspire us with her beautiful playing. Roz has such an understanding of Classical Greek dance, and her music keeps us dancing even when ourbodies have had enough.
So all in all, a successful week in fabulous studios – roll on next year!
