Miss
Debbie Mitchell
Debbie
started dancing at the age of 3, initially training
in all aspects of dance, before concentrating on Ballroom,
Latin American and Old Time, becoming involved in Disco
from its inception.
She
passed her first student exam at 16, and Associate at
17. As well as being a Disco/Freestyle Fellow, she holds
Fellowship in Ballroom and Licentiate status in Latin
American, Viennese Waltz, Rock 'n' Roll and Associate
Old Time.
Debbie
has been Principal of her own school for the last 7
years, working extensively with children for examinations
and medallist competitions at both area and national
levels; and with adults for social dancing, through
the Local Education Authority, for whom she also teaches
a variety of classes in Information Technology and AE/FE
Teaching Training. Debbie regularly attends local schools
giving talks/demonstrations about dance, and is a qualified
adult and further education lecturer, with a background
in Administrative Management.
Having
spent 6 years successfully studying for a BA (Hons)
degree with the Open University, Debbie is currently
working towards a MA in Professional Development, with
the University of Huddersfield, with her dissertation
being on Dance Education. She is then hoping to progress
to study for a Doctorate in Education, going into a
more in depth study of Dance in Education. Debbie is
also currently involved in writing educational materials,
with the aim of eventually producing a variety of educational
textbooks. She enjoys promoting dance to people of all
ages and abilities, especially in the north of England,
and is working hard to attaining Fellowship status in
the remaining Faculties, with a view to ultimately becoming
an examiner for the ISTD
