Enthusiasm
Continues Overseas
Examiners
returning from recent trips to the Far East –
Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong – report that
high numbers are taking Country Western professional
examinations – mainly Associate and some Licentiate
but there is also eager anticipation of a Fellowship
level! The enthusiasm of the professionals is matched
by many amateurs who attend classes regularly, some
dancing in extended sessions from 6pm to 10pm. The overall
standard is good and the dances featured in the ISTD
book are being lapped up with a demand for more.
This
continuing popularity of the Country Western/Line Dancing
scene is a reminder of the early days in the UK, including
the dress code of Cowboy hats and boots, which are worn
by many. Perhaps the main difference in the Far East
is the desire to take examinations at professional level.
It will be interesting to follow the future of Line
Dancing overseas. Surely with so much enthusiasm and
hunger for more it will only be a matter of time before
many of these keen Line Dancers mimic the current trends
in the UK.
