Alternative Variations for Grades 5 & 6
and New Variation for Intermediate Foundation
In
order to complete the set of alternative variations for the
Grade syllabi, Francesca Filpi and Vanessa Palmer, both members
of the Royal Ballet company, were invited to choreograph variations
for Grade 5 and Grade 6, respectively.
A
well attended course was held at ISTD HQ on 11th January when
both dancers gave their valuable time to teach their own variations.
They were very well received by all the teachers who were
able to attend, who really valued the opportunity to learn
from the creators of the work, especially as Miss Filpi and
Miss Palmer gave so generously of their knowledge
and creativity.

Whilst
these variations are an alternative option for Grade 5 and
Grade 6 the new variation for Intermediate Foundation will
be compulsory from 1st September 2004.

This
was also taught on 11th January and has been choreographed
by Heather Fish. Her approach to this was to create variations
within the piece so that teachers will be able to choose the
options which suit their students best. This also means that
the new variation will be suitable for boys and girls. Consequently,
it is an intriguing piece to learn.
