Celebration
of Dance
The
Celebration of Dance took place at Watford Boys Grammar School,
which houses a surprisingly large theatre.
This
was the first time that my students and I had attended the
event and we were extremely nervous, especially as we do not
usually participate in festivalsand so are unuse to performing
on a stage regularly.
One
of the things that really struck me about the event was its
inclusive nature. We are all aware that only a minority of
students will have the desire and the attributes to pursue
a career in dance so it was truly
heart-warming to see children of varying physiques and abilities
having their moment on stage to experience the joy of dancing.

After
a relaxed and friendly warm up the children participated in
a class on stage, followed by the opportunity for each child
to dance their solo.
I
must confess that I had expected the tense, competitive atmosphere
that so often accompanies multi-school events but, on the
contrary, there was a cheerful warmth in the air and everyone
was most friendly. By the end of the day my students were
congratulating new found friends and chatting excitedly about
their experience.
I
have been asked by the students and their parents to thanks
all those who must have worked so very hard to organise and
ensure that it was a really enjoyable event for all who attended.
Thank
you!
