Miss
Lorna Lee
Lorna's
mother sent her to ballet and tap classes at the age
of 4 years old. She spent 10 years training in the stage
Faculties, during which time she made appearances in
numerous shows, cabarets and pantomimes.
Through
those juvenile years her dreams were to become a stage
dance teacher and own her own dance school.
She
began Ballroom dancing at the age of 13 and when she
left school became a student teacher for the Court Schools
of Dancing, where she met her husband and partner, Michael
Stylianos.
Together
they enjoyed a fruitful competitive career. In the short
span of 11 years, and never dancing as amateurs, they
won and successfully defended many professional Latin
American championships including 7 times International
Champion, triple United Kingdom and Open British Professional
Champions.
At the end of their competitive years they received
a Carl Alan Award from HRH Princess Anne for the most
outstanding partnership. In 1986 they were the first
and only Latin American dancers to appear in cabaret
at the Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.
Since
retiring from competitions in 1975 Lorna became joint
owner of a dance studio in South London and has been
involved with the coaching of many World, European and
National Champions.
In
the summer of 1993 together with her husband, Lorna
opened a new purpose built Dance Academy especially
for the training of competitive dancers. Amateurs and
Professionals travel from all parts of the world to
train at their studio.
Lorna
holds Fellowship qualifications. She is internationally
well known and travels the world teaching, lecturing
and as an adjudicator. She is an executive council member
of the Ballroom Dancers Federation and was elected onto
the Latin American Faculty of the ISTD in 1997. She
is now Chairman of that Faculty and has been heavily
involved with the recent re-writing of the Latin American
technique.
She
is co-organiser of the Imperial Ballroom and Latin American
Championships, the Universal Open and the All England
Latin American Championships, and still finds time to
spend with her two daughters.
