New
Area Medallist Event
The
4th August 2002 was a very exciting but nerve-racking day. It was the
very first London/Berks/Oxon area Medallist event and Neil and I had
no idea if it was going to be a success.
The
ticket sales said 'yes' but there are a multitude of things that could
go wrong as I'm sure anyone who has tried staging such an event knows.
However, we had surrounded ourselves with experts and under the guidance
of our very experienced compere, Margaret Connon, ably assisted by Richard
Hunt, Betty Bouston and John Taylor judging and Estelle Grassby and
Mum scrutineering, the day was soon under way.
All
the sections in the children's events were very well supported with
some of the lower Grades having to dance four times to reach the finals.
There were many boys participating with nearly all sections danced separately
to the girls.
The
standard was extremely high, with some of the new Latin technique being
used to great effect, choreographically and technically. With all the
Latin dances being covered at one level or another, Clive our DJ was
kept very busy and provided us with some fabulous music.
The
atmosphere all day was terrific and all the children had a great time
with lots of dancing and fun and a pocketful of token sweeties to go
home with.
If
you haven't attended an event yet, try next year - you and your pupils
are worth it!
