Latin
Seminar
The ISTD East Anglian Area Latin Seminar was held at the Lait Dance
Club in Ipswich on Sunday 9th December 2001. Approximately 50 people
attended from as far afield as Humberside.
The
new ISTD Latin Technique was explained in detail by Lorna Lee & Janet
Clark.
The
first dance covered was Rumba. The audience eagerly joined Lorna on
the floor to copy her Rumba walk and explore actions like lateral swing,
rotation and settling. Lorna also explained the new way of describing
the Samba Bounce to ensure an even bounce action over each bar of music.
Again the audience took to the floor, working on lowering slowly after
the foot is placed. She made the bounce action seem so simple and logical.
Lorna
and Janet dealt with the basic work in each dance in a clear, concise
manner. For example, in Cha Cha Cha, the various chasses were explained
in detail; in Paso Doble, the improved characterisation of the dance
by the introduction of the 'Lead and Shaping' column was apparent; in
Jive, the improvement of the chasse action by using the inside edges
of feet, and being down with hip swing on foot placement were fully
explained. New figures and developments of existing figures were also
shown in detail.
The
session started at 10am and finished at 4pm with only two short breaks.
It is amazing how these two ladies covered so much ground in such a
short time. The main question most people asked when leaving the seminar
was, "When can we have another?"
