Cheer
for Charlie
BBC
Television recently broadcasted a programme called 'Cheer for Charlie'
where Charlie Dimmock, she of Ground Force fame, took on the challenge
of becoming a member of a Formation Dancing Team.
She
trained for just four months and was then filmed at the Imperial Championships
held at Lakeside in Surrey. The judges tried their very best to pick
out Charlie as they assessed the two competing teams, but without success.
Her hair, make-up and the dress disguised her wonderfully well and the
dance quality was such that it was impossible to decide which team she
was in.

Not
only must we congratulate Charlie Dimmock on the splendid performance,
but we should also include Michael Stylianos, Lorna Lee and Monica Needham,
the organisers of the Imperial Ballroom Championships for getting such
an excellent background event for this project. As the Chairman of Adjudicators
at the Imperial Championships I would also like to express my personal
thanks to the whole BBC team for the splendid way in which they worked.
Their co-operation was superb and consideration went both ways. I hope
that those who are in contact with the BBC team will pass this message
on to them.
It
was, without question, a great publicity push for Dance Sport. There
is time to do something positive to help get people into dancing. (The
British Dance Council already has a committee set up for that actual
task!) After all, here we have a nationally known celebrity, someone
who men in particular enjoy seeing. It's an opportunity not to be missed!
