A
series of examinations has been created from children's grades through
to professional teaching qualifications.
The
children's work is based on natural movements: walking, running,
jumping and skipping. It is designed to encourage an imaginative
and rapid response from beginners.
The
Jazz Awards provide a basic grounding in modern jazz, and are ideal
for the late beginner or as a recreational course of movement.
Boys'
work has been developed to meet increasing demand for a modern dance
training for boys.

Tape
& CD Operators
Please
can we ask teachers yet again to be considerate in their
choice of music operators. It is not permissible to
have a teacher or assistant teacher working the music
in the examination studio. Parents are also not a good
choice! Ideally there should a student or responsible
teenager from the school who has a good knowledge of
the machine involved. Examiners keep finding that operators
have not had a practice and this is frustrating for
all involved and slows down the examination. Music operators
should be seated a discreet distance from the examiner
and not directly facing the candidates.

Under
Age Associates
Students
in full time training at vocational schools have always
been permitted to take an Associate Examination at the
age of 17. ISTD examinations now require a letter requesting
permission for early examinations to go to the relevant
committee. Although the result and report will be issued
the candidate cannot receive their certificates until
they are 18. This is a requirement of the QCA because
of the nature of the examination as carrying teaching
status.

Associate
Diploma
Candidates
should note that in Part 1 of the examination (at the
candidate's studio) there will no longer be any tutorial
given after the examination. The Part 1 Diploma will
consist of the class and choreography only. Candidates
do not have to enter their own pupils within the same
session, either at their own studio or at London or
regional Centres. Additionally, it is not necessary
for the examiner to know the previous examination results,
as it is only the teacher's work on the day that is
being examined. Candidates' previous results and their
portfolio will be checked prior to the Part 2 examination.
