A
Trip to Australia
Dancing
down under with Lyn Richardson
When
the ISTD International examinations department asked
if I would undertake a six week tour in New Zealand
and Australia I jumped at the chance. It was obvious
to see that the enthusiasm and love for the work had
been passed down from the teachers to their pupils and
students. New Zealanders and Aussies just love their
dance – it’s a huge industry there.
I
gathered that what the teachers loved most was the ‘rightness’
of our work – if one can use that terminology
– not only for children recreationally but also
for preparing future professional dancers.
It
was so rewarding to see our work danced in the furthest
corners of the world. I had many plane trips to what
the Aussies call ‘the outback’ and what
we call ‘the country’!
So
many teachers talked of Miss Crail, Mrs Ashcroft, Daphne
Peterson and Gwen Carter with real love, affection and
gratitude for introducing ISTD work to them many years
ago.
Whilst
I was in Adelaide, I met, cuddled and fell in love with
Pete… no, not another new man in my life but a
koala one of the ‘perks’ of the job!
I
would like to thank every teacher I met during my tour;
not only for their kindness and concern for my welfare
but mostly for delivering our work with such care and
belief. Hang on in there…
