Move
It 2008
A
student’s view of this year’s dance exhibition
at London Olympia

We
worked hard towards our Move It 2008 performance and
were lucky enough to be invited to take part in the
fashion show on the Thursday as well as our ballet piece
on the Friday and a Jazz number on the Saturday. The
fashion show on the Thursday was only open to the trade,
so we were able to get used to the stage space before
the public arrived on Friday. It was great to model
all of the exciting costumes on the Thursday and to
look forward to our pieces and watching the other colleges
perform over the weekend.
We
ran onto the massive stage and I took a deep breath
before I settled down into my starting position. With
my back to the audience I was gripping onto every muscle
to try and stop my legs feeling like jelly. As I turned
around I caught a glimpse of the arena and tried to
make the most of the electric atmosphere. I couldn’t
believe the huge number of people who were there. It
seemed there were faces everywhere – not only
on the floor but peeping out from behind stands and
all around the balcony. In no time the dance had finished
and we were being cheered and applauded. It was worth
all of the rehearsals, I got such a buzz, it was an
incredible experience.
The
stalls were interesting to go and look around, with
such a variety; colleges, magazines, agents, dancewear,
cards and shoes, even Haven Holidays had a stand. It
is such a great place for teenagers to go if they are
unsure about what route to follow, with lots of different
advice, classes, seminars and live performances from
many different backgrounds.
The
live shows were amazing, from professionals to vocational
colleges, TV personalities and children and in many
different dance styles, such as ballet, tap, hip hop,
jazz, ballroom double work and if you have not experienced
Move It before then I would recommend you keep it free
in your diaries for next year – a definite must.
See
you there!
