New
Modern Grades
The
Modern Theatre Faculty are making major revisions and additions to the
Modern Grade work.
As
part of the ISTD's on-going work with the QCA the number of Grades in
each Faculty is being standardised to ensure a common progression of
standards and content across the framework of qualifications. The Modern
work currently has a Primary Grade and then Grades 1-4.
The
development team have re-designed the existing work and are choreographing
new exercises. We are trying to keep the disruption to the existing
work as minimal as possible. So...all the Grades are 'moving up'.
A
new Primary Class examination is being created, similar to
the format of the ISTD Ballet Class Examination with the teacher
in the examination to guide the children. The current Grade
4 syllabus is being divided, the more complex and demanding
exercises move to Grade 6, with additional material, and a
new Grade 5 being constructed from the remainder.
From
1st January 2004 the Modern Graded Examinations will be as

Teachers
of students who are working on the existing Grade 4 for examination
in early 2004 will have the option of teaching them the additional
exercises in Grade 5 with a possible delay, but achieving
a higher certificate than would have been awarded, or those
in Grade 6 which is in level 3 of the National Framework.
Students
who already hold, or who gain a Grade 4 certificate before
31st December 2003, will have the option of entering for Grade
6, or if they do not wish to repeat some of the work, move
on to Intermediate Foundation.
Courses
on the new work will be arranged from 25th October 2003.
