Cram Awards 2005
The
Janet Cram Awards at Cecil Sharp House on the 19th June were
true to form, with a blazing hot day and no cooling breeze.
The Juniors were the first to dance, their class was taken
by Wendy O’Dowd and adjudicated by the Modern Theatre
Faculty Vice Chair, Christina Ballard, Lyn Richardson and
Karen King. The standard of technical work in this class was
very secure and we saw some really lovely children’s
dances. The Seniors followed, their class was taken by Elaine
Mansfield and had a really strong contingent of boys this
year. There were six boys which was 25% of the class. They
brought a real energy to their work and gave everyone a very
brave performance of their set amalgamation, ‘The Tip-Off’,
complete with basketballs!

Gaynor Owen, Modern Theatre Faculty Chairman, presented the
Awards to the Juniors and Seniors at the end of the morning
and invited the Award Winners to stay and dance for the audience
during the adjudication of the Premiers.

The Premier class in the afternoon was taught by Deborah Bond
and adjudicated by Modern Theatre Chairman, Gaynor Owen, Tap
Faculty Chairman Paddy Hurlings and Steven Paling who is currently
resident director for the UK Tour of ‘Mamma Mia’.
It was a joy to see these beautifully trained young dancers
performing
with real passion and again there was some very strong work
from a large contingent of boys.
