Miss Heather Rees

Heather Rees is a Fellow and Examiner of Modern, Tap and National Dance and a Licentiate of Imperial Ballet.  She spent a short period in theatre before running her own school and then moving on to teach at many of the full time Theatre and Teacher Training Colleges (inter alia, Laine Theatre Arts, Doreen Bird College, London College and Stella Mann College as well as at New Hall in Chelmsford).  For six years, prior to its closure, she taught at Bush Davies School, East Grinstead.  During the following period, four years were spent at Hammond School, two of which were as Head of Dance.

She joined the Committee of the National Dance Faculty in 1975 (working first as secretary and then as joint Vice-Chairman) and helped to collect and video many of the dances for the National Dance syllabus.

After a short break she returned to the Committee and is Editorial Contact for Dance Magazine. In addition she was a member of the Tap sub-committee who produced the, then, new Grade and Vocational syllabi and was also one-time member of the Sub-Committee for Boys’ Modern Dance.  She continues to study with specialists of national and tap dance in both the UK and overseas and is author of the book Tap Dancing, Rhythm in Their Feet.  At present she examines internationally and in the U.K.; she also arranges coaching and workshops in her home town and at various venues in the UK and overseas.
