Videos:
This month, two videos have been passed to the library.
The first, a double bill from the Nederlands dans Theater with choreography
by Jiri Kylian. "Symphony in D" music by Haydn, contains all the wonderful
flow of movement which is his hallmark combined with "in" jokes, great
invention and wit. A very funny ballet which is beautiful to watch. Followed
by "Stamping Ground" inspired by the Aboriginal culture, it is accompanied
by stamps and claps of the dancers and also by drums. There are strong
animal connections in the movements and stillness of the dancers and an
interesting study of meetings and relationships developed within the unique
choreography.
The second video is "Hobson's Choice" danced by the wonderful Birmingham
Royal Ballet - a delightful comedy set in 1880 Salford and choreographed
by David Bintley. Michael O'Hare and Karen Donovan take the leads, but
the whole cast sparkles as usual.
Both are obtainable at Dance Books Ltd. DV20 and DV19.
