Jack Buchanan & Fred Astaire performing
'I Guess I'll Have to Change My Plan' from 'Top Hat & Tails'
The story of Jack Buchanan by Michael Marshall

LIBRARY

Professor Yoshikazu Nagai and his wife are in England for one year, and we had the pleasure of welcoming them to the library during April and May 2000. Professor Nagai is researching for his third book, which will also be about the history and development of Ballroom dancing, both here and in Japan. He has very kindly donated a copy of each of his first two books, which have been published in Japan and are reminiscent of Cyril Beaumont's love and care in his early publications.

Unfortunately, not being in command of the Japanese language, the closed books sit on the library shelf waiting for someone who has the ability to read them. After their last visit, Professor Nagai and his wife were off to see the chrysanthemums at the Chelsea flower show, hoping to return to the library later in the year.

Donations

Many thanks to Jill Redford for her donation of books. Amongst them, two beautiful books on National Costumes and an early copy of the Cecchetti manual.

Some are now on the "For Sale" shelf in the Library

'Top Hat & Tails'-
The story of Jack Buchanan by Michael Marshall.

Fred Astaire writes in the foreword..."I was captivated by his personal charm and comedy methods. I enjoyed watching him walk as well as his songs and dances. He always had a marvellous walk. Little did I think then that some thirty years later we would be working together"
