OBITUARIES

Ron Ferguson

Ron was a quiet dignified man who inspired his pupils to do well. Many festivals have had big parties of enthusiastic and well trained medallists from his school in Ramsgate, where he and Jo, his lovely wife, taught all age groups to be either social dancers or train for medals and competitions.

As he progressed through his professional examinations it was obvious that he would become a very good committee man. His inner strength was valuable at meetings. He would seldom open a debate - but wait until everyone had their say and then produce a solution in his own, positive and calculated way. He was largely responsible for remodelling the medal system. Many people progressing into committee work in the ISTD have benefited from his confidential advice.

He was a tower of strength on the organisation of the ISTD Medallist Festivals, and his quiet but authoritative voice was well known on the microphone. Ron, we will all miss you so much; but rest assured that many of the paths you have set will continue to run the school you loved so much in the way you would want.

It was an honour to have known and worked with you Ron, I have lost a most valued friend.

Peggy Spencer MBE ISTD

Vice President Jo would like to thank all ISTD members for their cards, flowers and kind thoughts whilst Ron was in hospital and to all those who attended his funeral to pay their respects.

He would have been amazed at just how many friends he had. Special thanks to Mr Robert Grover, Chairman of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, who gave tribute to Ron thanking him for all his work for the Society.

Gordon Little

A lot of things have been said about Gordon's professional career but I would like to remember Gordon, my friend. Three of the things about Gordon that I admired the most were his professionalism; his marvelous sense of humour and the fact that he was always immaculately dressed.

I always remember Gordon's little jokes, which he delivered with the expert timing of a professional entertainer.

He was a very caring man and very sensitive to other peoples needs. There were many little tales to tell but the one I would like to remember most is that every time Gordon lectured he would always enquire "did it go well?" and I would like to reply today on behalf of us all "Yes Gordon, you did very well"
