Faculty
Committees
Have you ever
thought about standing for one of the Faculty Committees? Have you ever
wondered what it involves and whether it would be worthwhile? Do you hold
your Fellowship qualification? If the answer to these questions is 'yes',
then the following information is for you.
Even if you haven't
considered standing as a candidate, you may be interested in knowing how
the committees work, so read on.
In all, there are
12 Faculty Committees. The number of members allowed on each committee
is set by the ISTD Council depending on the size of the Faculty.

Each committee is
re-elected every three years. To make life easier for everybody only three
Faculties will come up for the election in any given year. Therefore, one
year, it will be Latin American, Imperial Ballet and National; the next
year it will be Disco/Freestyle/Rock 'n' Roll, Sequence and Cecchetti;
and the following year it will be Modern Theatre, Classical Greek and Modern
Ballroom.
The Alternative Rhythms
Faculty and the South Asian Dance Faculty are new to the ISTD and do not
as yet have qualified Fellows. The two committees are, therefore, interim
committees until such time as elections can be held.
Announcements are
placed on this website about the forthcoming elections for the current
year, and it is at this stage that you should contact Cathy
Browne if you are interested in becoming a committee member.
You will be sent
a nomination form which should be signed by five supporters who hold at
least a Licentiate in the Faculty.
If a member of the
current committee decides to stand down and you are the only new candidate,
you will be automatically elected to join the new committee. Otherwise
your name will be added to a ballot form along with the existing committee
and any other new nominees.
This is sent to all
Licentiates and Fellows in the Faculty and their completed ballot forms
are returned to HQ and opened at the beginning of September in the presence
of the Faculty Chairman, the Chief Executive and the Society's Auditor.
As a new nominee,
the voting members may not know you very well, and therefore we ask you
to provide some information about yourself which, of course, increases
your chances of being elected.
Once you are elected
onto the committee you will have a real input into the running of your
Faculty. Each committee meets regularly at Headquarters - some meet about
six times a year, others meet more often than this - and all matters of
importance, changes to the syllabi, arrangements for events, correspondence
etc are discussed.
The Faculty committees
have all done sterling work over the past years, but they know they must
look to the future if the Society is to survive in the new millennium.
They will always need new people and new ideas to face the challenges ahead
and to ensure that the work that has already been done is allowed to continue.
Do you feel that
you could take on this challenge? Don't be afraid to come forward if you
want to contribute. Even if you are only tentatively interested and want
to make some enquiries, your phone call or your letter will always be welcome.
Or perhaps you would like to make an appointment to come and discuss the
possibilities at Headquarters.
This is your Society
and you can shape its future!
