Why come to Theatre Congress?

This will be another excellent day for teachers!

The opportunity to see master classes by wonderful lecturers - to understand new methods of teaching, different ideas and artistic interpretations of steps and movements, both in the structured syllabi and free work. Vitally important for ongoing professional development, particularly for young teachers.

The programme covers many different faculties from the Theatre Board and what a joy it is to see beautiful work in other dance disciplines outside of our own range of expertise and experience. The South Asian Dance Faculty - a relatively new section of our Society always present stunning dancers and I for one, am grateful for the opportunity to witness these, albeit once a year. The intricacy of their movements, the lovely costumes and overall style of delivery, so very different to any other form of dance, opens many spiritual windows in peoples' minds.

The lectures by guest artists and choreographers from the West End are always very exciting and an inspiration to increase our vocabulary of movement and styles which we can then pass on to our children and students.

To end this super day, we present a Showcase which is a chance to see the winning solos and groups from the year's competitions such as the Janet Cram, Star Tap, Imperial and Cecchetti Ballet National and Choreographic Awards. These dancers come from all over the UK to perform - it is the highlight of the day and certainly reinforces the conviction that our Society stands for Quality and Artistry.

For those of you who haven't been before and sometimes wonder what its all about - do come! Every year teachers and examiners alike, learn something new which cannot fail to improve and enhance their teaching methods.

It is also a good chance to meet friends, to network and to share and discuss any problems relevant to our business.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Christina Ballard
