BOARD
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
FOR DANCE TEACHERS
As many of you may
already be aware from reports in our Dance magazine, the
ISTD is going through the process of applying for government recognition
through the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).
In order to comply
with QCA requirements, it is essential that some new systems are introduced
without delay and it is intended that these will enhance the integrity
of the awarding process.
REPORT
FORMS
From the 1st September
2000, the examiner will no longer send the examination reports directly
to you but will send these to Headquarters for checking procedures. We
appreciate the possible extra time involved before you receive the results,
but hope, in practice, this will not be a significant increase. Examiners
have been asked to return the forms to the office promptly after the examination
has taken place.
TIMETABLES
New timetable procedures
will be operational for examinations held after the 1st January 2001, as
candidate details have to be recorded at Headquarters prior to the examinations
taking place.
It will, therefore,
be necessary for you to complete a newly-designed timetable sheet and return
to Headquarters 6 weeks before the examination date, together with your
fees. You will also be asked to complete a registration form giving more
details about the candidates including their address, date of birth, sex,
ethnic origin etc. This information will be recorded at Headquarters and
each candidate will be allocated a Personal Identification Number, which
they will maintain for all future examinations.
Once a candidate
has a PIN number, you need only quote this for their next examination without
having to complete their details again on the registration form.
We will send you
a copy of the information we have recorded 4 weeks before the examination
date and we will need to be notified of any amendments or corrections within
7 days. Otherwise, we will assume that the entries are correct and an official
timetable will be produced by us 3 weeks before the examination date, which
we will despatch to you for your records and to the examiner.
CERTIFICATES
As the candidates'
names will be registered before the examination takes place, this should
facilitate a faster output of certificates, as only the results will need
to be added afterwards. Also, as you have already had the opportunity to
check for mistakes on the timetable, this should reduce the number of certificates
that need to be returned to us for correction.
The ISTD fully appreciates
that these changes may be difficult both for you as the teacher and for
us to administer at Headquarters over the coming months. However, we hope
you understand that some of our previous systems, which have been in place
for many years, would not stand up to scrutiny in the modern world.
We will keep you
informed of all future developments and I hope you will not hesitate to
contact me if you have any queries.
