57th
Annual General Meeting
The
57th Annual Meeting of the ISTD was held at Imperial House on Thursday
4th July 2002 at 3.30pm
Mister
President, Vice Presidents, Members of Council and all members of
the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, may I welcome you all
here to our 57th Annual General Meeting.
Before
I continue with my report may we take a special moment to remember
those members of the Society who have sadly passed away during the
past year.
I
would ask you all to stand and honour their memory.
Thank
you.
This
past year has been a very exciting time for the Society and its
membership. New initiatives have emerged from all corners of the
Society. These ideas have formed the basis for much of the Faculty
and ultimately the Administrative Council's decision making.
In
their deliberation with subjects so diverse as the Qualifications
and Curriculum Authority to the Kids website, I have never seen
our decision makers so active, focused and on their toes.
Our
continuing endeavours to streamline and adjust to the QCA requirements
has without doubt tested the resolve of both management and membership
alike.
Our
management team and staff at Headquarters under the direction of
our Chief Executive, Mr Michael Browne, have met these challenges
with the necessary expertise that we have come to expect from them.
Our
loyal membership continue to meet these challenges and statutory
measures with enthusiasm and a positive attitude for the necessary
change.
My
congratulations must go to both staff and membership for their continued
commitment to our cause.
The
launching of our Kids website was yet another first for our organisation.
The website's initial responses were excellent. The site also attracted
much praise from other outside agencies.
All
Faculties have continued to produce the highest standard of work
that we expect from them.
Our
worldwide reputation for technical excellence is of course attributed
to our well founded principles that have for so many years underpinned
the pinnacle of performance.
Individual
faculty days and competitive events throughout the Society have
been most successful and very well supported.
The
Royal Lancaster Hotel was again the venue for our Joint Faculty
Day of lectures, culminating in the evening festivities of our Annual
Dinner Dance. A most enjoyable day was had by all concerned.
On
the International scene we continue our growth by using every authority
available, wherever we may operate, to establish and develop our
educational involvement and artistic creativity.
The
financial base of the Society's activities is very sound at this
present time. Our Finance and General Purposes Committee's valuable
advice has helped the Administrative Council navigate a very responsible
financial course and my thanks must go to that committee and its
Chairman, Mr John Cook, for his very special skills in this area.
My
thanks must also go to my Vice Chairman, Mrs Patricia Prime, who
has been so supportive of my role as your Chairman and I very much
welcome the accessibility for consultation with our President and
Vice Presidents whenever advice may be sought.
In
conclusion.
Our
government backed accreditation has been the envy of many other
multi faceted dance organisations but, true to our history, the
Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing has once again led from
the front.
It
is so easy for any individual or organisation to stay with the present
and reflect on the past. This Society has the courage to tackle
the very difficult subject of the FUTURE.
We,
the ISTD, aim to give our teachers the best possible opportunity
to develop their skills in the world's dance market. As your Chairman
I am very proud to lead such a progressively minded dance teacher
organisation.
Thank
you
Robert
Grover
Chairman, ISTD
