QCA
Accreditation
In
January of this year, the ISTD received accreditation of the final set
of General Graded and Vocational Graded Examinations. All Theatre Faculty
Grades and Vocational examinations (previously known as 'Majors') are now
included on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
We
receive many enquiries from teachers about the position of the ISTD's examinations
on the NQF, so you may find the diagram opposite helpful.
Where 'other awards' are shown on the Framework, indicating other qualifications
in the same band, this is to give a rough notion of equivalence for users
and employers alike. It does not mean that a Grade 6 is the same as an
A level or a substitute for it and likewise for the other examinations
listed.
For
more detailed information about the National Qualifications Framework,
you may find it helpful to look at the QCA website on www.qca.org.uk
Qualifications
accredited by QCA are issued with an accreditation code, which is published
on certificates and all new report forms as they are printed, and these
are given opposite. If you receive a query from an educational establishment
about the validity of a particular qualification's accreditation, you can
give them this number and they should be able to access the information
they require.
Many
teachers also enquire about the level of accreditation given to the ISTD's
teaching qualifications from Associate through to Fellowship. Please be
assured that a considerable amount of work is being done in this area and
it is hoped that there may be some more definite news during 2003, in line
with the QCA schedule.
