Library News
Visitors
Several members of the summer courses at Headquarters have visited the
library book sale and found some amazing bargains. All books not placed
on our bookshelves or sold by the end of August will be offered to the
English National Ballet School.
Visitors'
requirements in the first six months of this year have been extremely varied.
Questions on ISTD history; the history of Tap; Liturgical dance; dance
illustrations for a poetry recital; anything about the dancing master Mr
Edward Scott; Enrico Cecchetti; National costumes; many aspects of Ballet
history and historical dances for theatre performance, not to mention career
change and resettlement of dancers. At least the library feels needed!
Donations
Many, many thanks to Alan Harrington and his friend, who arrived a few
weeks ago bearing nine very heavy boxes of books and magazines. Most of
the books have been taken onto the shelves and the magazines will fill
many gaps in our collections. A very generous gift.
Also, three
equally heavy boxes of books delivered last week by Corinne Jacobs containing
a really interesting collection; plus some useful postcards of National
costumes. She came all the way from Essex on the hottest day of the year
so far - very many thanks for the gift, the time and the effort, it is
much appreciated.

Four years ago, I started to collect information on the very individual
person who called herself Zelia Raye. The more I read, the more amazed
I became at her wide interests in all the allied subjects. Limbering, music,
rhythm, anatomy, dance notation, filming, costume design and child education.
All pursued with tremendous energy and vitality and brought together in
the founding of the Stage Branch. Now, after a great deal of time and energy
on the part of Pamela Eddleston, the book was launched in August. Make
sure you can get a copy - it is a fascinating story of dance in the 20's
and 30's and the background history of Modern work.
