Have you got a prodigy in your school?

Carlton Television, together with the charity, 'Children in Crisis' are planning to continue the success of the major children's awards event, entitled 'Britain's Brilliant Prodigies.'

The programme aims to celebrate and encourage young British talent, and will be an uplifting showcase of the best of British youth. There will be awards presented in the fields of music, dance, and sport and a special award to a young person who has made a difference.

They would like you to nominate various individuals who you think may be suitable candidates for the disciplines detailed below. The children must be British, and be between five and fifteen years of age in May of this year.

The children need to send in a videotape of their SOLO performance. If they are entering the pop vocalist category they need to sing two contrasting songs: an up tempo and a ballad and may have an accompanist. If they are entering the instrumental category, they need to perform two contrasting pieces with an accompanist if necessary. The modern dance applicant should choose a dance number that demonstrates their ability and style to its fullest capacity. The video will not be part of the television programme it merely allows Carlton and the Charity, to see the ability of the children.

This year the children will not be competing against each other, they will each be considered on their own individual merits. Those chosen to receive an award will be invited to attend the awards ceremony in London. As well as presentations of the awards by leading celebrities, the event will feature performances from some of the categories.

Due to the time constraints, the children you think would make good candidates, must send in their video showreels as soon as possible. The deadline is the 8th February 2003. They can be VHS, DVCAM or Mini DV. The technical quality of these showreels is not important, they are not for broadcast. However, they do need to be of good enough quality to enable us to make a fair decision on that child's potential.

The disciplines are all SOLO performances, with the exception of the vocalists and instrumentalists, who can have an accompanist.

1. Modern dance/jazz /street
2. Vocalist - pop/jazz/blues
3. Instrumentalist - classical/contemporary/jazz

Please send the videotapes, clearly labelled, by
