For many years I have been an avid reader and admirer of the articles
published in the Dancing Times and written by Maria Fay. Her infinitely
sensible approach to all problems, both physical and psychological,
has been reassuring and, I am sure, of immense help to both students
and teachers.
I
was fortunate to be able to take a few classes with her when she
first arrived in this country and still remember the ideas and
enthusiasm that accompanied her teaching. Her great interest in
helping dancers with physical weakness and injury has led to the
development of a Floor Barre, which has now been published in
book form by Dance Books Ltd, containing detailed descriptions
and breathing for each exercise, all clearly illustrated by photographs
or line drawings. An accompanying video tape will also be available.
Essential
reading for all teachers with the wellbeing of their students
a priority, and a wonderful 'self help' to students with difficulties.
The
book is now in the library.
Library
Book Sale
The
remaining books on the sale shelves are historically useful and
many are now long out of print. Most of them are Ballet orientated,
but there are also several for those interested in Greek, National,
Ballroom and Historical. A list is available from the library
on request.
