ISTD2 - The ISTD’s New Dance Studios

It is with great pleasure that I am able to inform our members that on Wednesday 5th January 2005 we finally completed the purchase of a building at 346 Old Street in London, which will be known as ISTD2.

The refurbishment of the building started at the end of January and when completed will include two theatre studios, both larger in size than the Joyce Percy studio at HQ, a Dancesport studio, changing room facilities, lecture rooms and meeting rooms.

CityAxis, the company who are undertaking the refurbishment hope to finish their work during May so that we can begin to use ISTD2 during June of this year. Thereafter these excellent new facilities will enable us to offer examinations and courses throughout the year for all the Faculties of the Society.

We are delighted to bring this project to fruition as we have been working on this since we had to lose two studios at HQ due to the formation of our two newest departments, Customer Services and Quality Assurance and Education and Training.

Also increased space has been required at HQ as a result of the International Department taking back the organisation of some overseas areas, particularly Italy, Greece and Ireland.

We hope all our members that have occasion to visit ISTD2 in the future will enjoy the experience and cherish these new premises.

Location

ISTD2 is situated at 346 Old Street approximately 6 minutes walk from HQ in Paul Street, and about the same from Old Street station. It is also only a 12 minute walk from Liverpool Street Station. The area in which it is situated is called the Shoreditch Triangle, which is very close to Shoreditch Town Hall

Ground Floor & Basement

From the draft plans below you will see that the ground floor will have a reception area and together with the basement will house the two Theatre studios with Harlequin flooring, waiting areas, changing rooms, showers, toilet facilities and kitchenettes.

Basement dance studio: 106 m2 (1136 sq ft)

Ground floor dance studio: 161 m2 (1731 sq ft)

First Floor The first floor of ISTD2 will provide a Dancesport studio complete with wooden flooring, waiting areas and tea room. Male and Female changing rooms and showers will be situated on the second floor above. Please note that the floor plans you see here are subject to change and therefore should not be taken as the definitive plans for the building. However, it is unlikely that there will be any significant alterations. Internal photographs of each floor of ISTD2 will be featured here and in a future edition of DANCE magazine when the refurbishment has been completed. Until then we hope the floor plans give you a tsate of what to expect!

First floor dance studio: 127 m2 (1367 sq ft)

Second & Third Floors The second floor will house a lecture room and waiting areas, kitchenette and toilet facilities whilst the third floor will have two meeting rooms of differing sizes, a kitchenette and toilet facilities. This will also have a waiting area.
