The
Diploma Consortia
The Diploma is an exciting and innovative new qualification
for 14-19 year olds being introduced in the state secondary
school curriculum in England from September 2008.
The
first Diplomas being taught include the Creative and
Media Diploma in which students learn about the creative
industries in general and can also choose to focus on
the areas that they are most interested in. These can
range from art through to fashion, interactive media,
music, drama and, of course, dance. All ISTD accredited
dance qualifications up to Level 3 are included within
the Diplomas.
The
Diploma can only be taught in groups of schools, called
‘consortia’ which are specially approved
by the Department of Children, Schools and Families.
There are nearly 190 consortia, which include nearly
4100 schools and colleges, already approved to deliver
the Creative and Media Diploma, over 60 consortia having
started from this September, and more will be approved
each year.
As
the Diploma is so big and so new, many head teachers
and school teachers in general may not have yet considered
the details of teaching dance as additional or specialised
learning, so it is important to contact them quickly
to establish a link and talk about how you can help
them and that you are the solution to their problems.
The list below gives the names of consortia approved
to deliver the Creative and Media Diploma, and the schools
within each, for you to look within your own particular
area.
