Looking forward to a dynamic future
As our Chairman, Peter Kyle, mentioned in his speech to members attending the AGM this year (see page 14 of this magazine), the ISTD is currently undertaking a strategic review of all aspects of the Society’s work.
This review is being carried out by seven working groups who are each tasked with reviewing a particular area of the Society and are therefore comprised of trustees, staff and other stakeholders that have expertise in the relevant focus area. Some of these areas are as follows:
• Evaluating existing services and benefits for members
and looking at options for new services;
• Reviewing and, where desired, developing ISTD
qualifications for both Theatre and Dancesport members
throughout the world;
• Developing greater partnerships throughout the dance and education sectors;
• Finding better ways to communicate with members by
improving IT systems;
• Improving on inter-governmental relationships for the
benefit of all members.
It is anticipated that this full and comprehensive look at the Society’s work will allow us to review and improve in all areas and develop new services for the benefit of members and potential members throughout the world.
The review is scheduled to complete in December when a full report will be compiled by each working group to be reviewed by the Council of Management. However, to ensure this review takes into account the views of all stakeholders, the strategic review is being undertaken with a clear schedule of activities and will involve wide consultation with members.
Understanding how you feel is vitally important in guiding us on how the ISTD should continue to develop. Therefore, an email address has been set up for you to submit your comments. Please note, you will not receive a reply to any email sent to this address, apart from an automated response advising you that your comments have been received. Instead your comments will be considered by the relevant working group(s) and will feed into the review itself. The email address for your views is review@istd.org.

News from the Review of Qualifications Working Group
The ISTD Working Group reviewing qualifications met on 26th August and as a priority reviewed the 2010 Target Date. Their decision has been ratified by Council in their meeting of the 10th September and is set out below in English, German, Greek, Italian and Spanish:
To position the ISTD at the forefront of the dance education sector, and ensure that its members are able to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them, the ISTD is carrying out a comprehensive review of its qualifications. These opportunities have arisen both through developments in the sectors of dance and education, and through changes in the world of qualifications, including the implementation of the QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework) in the UK and the EQF (European Qualifications Framework) throughout Europe (which will come fully into force by the end of 2010).
The aim of the review is to develop a portfolio of qualifications designed to be responsive to members’ needs in this changing environment, in whichever sector they operate in throughout the world. It also aims to ensure that members continue to benefit from ample opportunities to pursue their professional development and ensure they continue to attain the highest standards.
In order for the review to take full account of members’ requirements, it is natural that ISTD should undertake the review by seeking feedback from members, teachers, students and other stakeholders. Therefore, as part of the review process, members will be given the opportunity to submit comments to a new dedicated email address, review@istd.org.
Current qualifications will remain in place during the review and the ISTD has full confidence in their quality. However, the review could involve changes to current ISTD qualifications; therefore it has been decided to remove the target date of 31st December 2010 with immediate effect.
In order to allow members to keep up to date with the review process, a dedicated section of the website has been designed to host information and articles will be placed in DANCE magazine. An article regarding the changing government qualifications frameworks will also be available in the next edition of DANCE.

Um sich fest als Wegbereiter im Bereich der Tanzpädagogik zu positionieren und sicherzustellen, dass ihre Mitglieder die ihnen zur Verfügung stehenden Möglichkeiten umfassend wahrnehmen können, führt die Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) derzeit eine ausführliche Überprüfung ihrer Qualifikationsabschlüsse durch. Diese Chancen entstanden durch besondere Entwicklungen in den Bereichen Tanz und Pädagogik sowie den Wandel in der Welt der Qualifikationen, darunter auch die Einführung des Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) in Großbritannien/Nordirland sowie des Europäischen Qualifikationsrahmens (European Qualifications Framework, EQF) in ganz Europa (die bis Ende 2010 vollständig in Kraft treten werden).
Ziel der Überprüfung ist die Entwicklung eines Qualifikationsportfolios, das den veränderten Bedürfnissen der Mitglieder im Wandel der Zeiten entgegenkommt – in welchem Sektor und in welchem Land sie auch arbeiten. Darüber hinaus soll so sichergestellt werden, dass die Mitglieder ihre berufliche Entwicklung auch in Zukunft durch eine Vielzahl verschiedener Möglichkeiten vorantreiben können und ihre Fachkompetenz stets höchsten Maßstäben entspricht.
Die Bedürfnisse und Anforderungen der Mitglieder sollen vollständig in die Neuordnung einfließen. Die ISTD engagiert sich besonders für das Feedback von Mitgliedern, Pädagogen, Studenten und anderen Interessengruppen. Im Rahmen der Überprüfungsarbeit erhalten die Mitglieder daher Gelegenheit, ihre Anmerkungen und Kommentare an eine neue, dedizierte E-Mail-Adresse – review@istd.org – zu senden.
Die derzeit geltenden Qualifikationen, deren Qualität auch weiterhin von der ISTD bestärkt wird, bleiben während der Überprüfungsphase in Kraft. Dennoch könnten sich aus der Überprüfung Modifikationen aktueller ISTD-Qualifikationen ergeben. Aus diesem Grund fiel die Entscheidung, den Zieltermin vom 31. Dezember 2010 mit sofortiger Wirkung aufzuheben.
Aktuelle Informationen zum Überprüfungsverfahren finden die ISTD-Mitglieder im eigens dafür eingerichteten Bereich auf der Webseite. Darüber hinaus werden entsprechende Artikel in der Fachzeitschrift DANCE veröffentlicht. Die nächste Ausgabe von DANCE enthält bereits einen Artikel über die veränderten Qualifikationsrahmen der Regierung.

Per far in modo che ISTD si collochi all'avanguardia nel settore dell’insegnamento della danza e garantisca ai suoi membri la possibilità di sfruttare al massimo le opportunità a loro disposizione, ISTD è impegnata in una revisione radicale dei titoli impartiti. Tali opportunità sono nate sia a seguito degli sviluppi verificatisi nei settori della danza e dell’istruzione, sia a seguito dei cambiamenti intercorsi nel mondo dei titoli, compresa l’attuazione del QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework, struttura dei titoli e crediti) nel Regno Unito e dell’EQF (European Qualifications Framework, struttura europea dei titoli) a livello europeo (la cui piena entrata in vigore è prevista per la fine del 2010).
La revisione si prefigge l’obiettivo di creare un portafoglio di titoli in grado di adattarsi alle esigenze dei membri in un ambiente in evoluzione, indipendentemente dal settore in cui essi operano nel mondo. Inoltre, intende assicurare che i membri continuino a trarre beneficio da molteplici opportunità di crescita professionale e a conseguire gli standard più elevati.
Per fare in modo che la revisione recepisca appieno le esigenze dei propri membri, è naturale che ISTD abbia intrapreso questo compito chiedendo il feedback di membri, insegnanti, studenti e altre parti interessate. Pertanto, nell’ambito del processo di revisione, ai membri sarà data l’opportunità di inviare i loro commenti utilizzando un nuovo indirizzo email apposito: review@istd.org.
Gli attuali titoli rimarranno in vigore durante la revisione e ISTD ha piena fiducia nella loro qualità. Tuttavia, la revisione potrebbe comportare cambiamenti agli attuali titoli ISTD; è stato pertanto stabilito di revocare la data limite del 31 dicembre 2010 con effetto immediato.

Con el fin de poner a ISTD al frente del sector de la enseñanza de danza, y para que sus miembros puedan aprovechar al máximo las oportunidades que se les presenten, ISTD está llevando a cabo una revisión exhaustiva de sus cualificaciones. Dichas oportunidades han surgido a raíz de los avances en los sectores de la danza y la educación y de cambios en las cualificaciones que incluyen la implantación del QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework, Marco de cualificaciones y créditos) en el Reino Unido y del EQF (European Qualifications Framework, Marco Europeo de Cualificaciones) en toda Europa, que entrará en vigor a finales de 2010.
El objetivo de la revisión es desarrollar una cartera de cualificaciones diseñada a responder a las necesidades de los miembros en este entorno en cambio, independientemente del sector en que se encuentren en todo el mundo. Igualmente, su objetivo es que los miembros continúen beneficiándose de amplias oportunidades para conseguir desarrollarse a nivel profesional y que sigan alcanzando los más elevados estándares.
Como es lógico, con el fin de que la revisión tenga en cuenta todas las necesidades de los miembros, ISTD realizará la revisión recopilando las opiniones de los miembros, profesores, alumnos y otras partes interesadas. Por lo tanto, como parte del proceso de revisión, los miembros disfrutarán de la oportunidad de enviar sus comentarios a una nueva dirección de correo electrónico con este fin: review@istd.org.
Las cualificaciones actuales permanecerán tal como están durante la revisión, ya que ISTD confía plenamente en su calidad. No obstante, la revisión puede implicar cambios en las cualificaciones actuales de ISTD. Por lo tanto, se ha decidido eliminar la fecha límite del 31 de diciembre de 2010 de inmediato.
