Cecchetti Classical Ballet has long wanted to be able to record the most advanced Cecchetti work, up to the professional Diploma level. As well as being a vital teaching support for teachers and students, recording the work on DVD will create an accessible resource for anyone wishing to learn more about the rich legacy of Cecchetti. The work is extensive so this is a significant project. The fundraising was launched on 24th June with a Salon evening, kindly hosted by Kristina Rogge and organised by a small group of very generous Cecchetti ‘friends’. A distinguished panel was lead by Richard Glasstone, Artistic Director of the Cecchetti Society, in conversation with Cecchetti Society Patron, Dame Monica Mason, and her Royal Ballet colleagues Christopher Saunders, Jonathan Cope and Ursula Hageli. Guests also included Patrons Kevin O’Hare and Lesley Collier. The evening was to raise awareness of the exceptional dance legacy of Enrico Cecchetti and the method that has helped to train generations of dancers and has influenced many of the great choreographers of English Ballet. Panel members discussed the importance of the work to them in their personal dance development, firstly as students, then in their careers as professional dancers and company répétiteurs, teachers and directors. All agreed on the value of recording this work for the benefit of current and future generations. The salon evening raised some £12,000 and the Cecchetti Society is greatly indebted to the organisers and the panel. This means work can begin but, given the ambitious scope of the project, more resources are needed. This launch was the first of a number of events that are planned by Kristina and her dedicated committee to continue to raise funds for this exciting venture. Anyone who would like to learn more about the project or make a donation should contact Sharon Orme, Faculty Secretary, telephone +44 (0)1245 460365, email secretary@cecchetti.co.uk or go to www.cecchetti.co.uk.
