Cecchetti Class Examination Courses
21 June 2013
South East Regional Course
Braving an early alarm call and severe weather for the journey to the South East course on the new Standard 7 and 8 exams at Mannings Heath, was well rewarded. The regional organiser, Sandra Powell had organised a very interesting programme for us.
The day started with the new Standards 7 and 8. Our tutor for the day was Alison Jenner. Alison has a lovely warm manner which is encouraging and helpful; most necessary for us teachers trying to absorb the new work which she taught with real clarity. Alison explained the thought behind the new exercises and format and emphasised how important the core Cecchetti principles are to it. The new work (Standard 7) and revised work (Standard 8) are well thought out, showing progression from the previous Standards. There are enjoyable enchaînements, some challenging, with a lovely dance quality to them. It was very nice to see some exercises revived from the old Senior Certificate.
After a lunch break spent catching up with friends and resting tired muscles, the afternoon began with a quick revision of Standards 5 and 6. Again, Alison was clear and helpful, answering any questions that arose from the session. She is passionate about the suitability of the music chosen for each exercise and obviously puts much thought and time into this important aspect of the class.
Throughout the day, we were very lucky to be accompanied by the wonderful, gentle music of Liz Hewson. It’s always such a treat to have an inspiring accompaniment!
I would like to say a huge thank you on behalf of all the course attendees to Miss Jenner and Miss Powell for an extremely enjoyable day.
