Elizabeth Baines Hewitt Award 2012

Elizabeth Baines Hewitt Award 2012

2 October 2012

Held on Sunday 20th May 2012 at ISTD2 Dance Studios

The Baines Hewitt Award is a most important event in the Imperial Classical Ballet calendar. The Award is open to students who have passed the Imperial Ballet Intermediate examination and who are either already at a recommended vocational college or have been accepted to start the following September. The prize money of £1,000, generously donated by the Gordon Edwards Charitable Trust and the Imperial Classical Ballet Faculty, will go towards their training.

The participants take part in a class, which this year was beautifully choreographed and taught by Lorraine Swain. There were nine entrants, five boys and four girls, and the adjudicators, Celia Johnson, Andrew Wilson and Denise Winmill, commented on the high standard, which did not make their task an easy one. The Award was given to Brogan McKelvey, aged 15, formerly a student of Janet Marshall and who is now training at Elmhurst Ballet School.
